Inreproductive centers, many women who have been preparing for infertility for a long time or have experienced test tube failure often hear the explanation of "poor egg quality." However, this is not an independent disease, but a condition indicator-meaning that the egg is deficient in development or function, which directly affects its ability to fertilize and the healthy development of subsequent embryos.
This cell, with a diameter of approximately 0.1 millimeters, has a highly complex internal structure. Any damage to any of its key components—such as the nucleus, which stores genetic material, or the mitochondria, which provide energy—can lead to chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo, failure to implant, or early miscarriage.
The decline in egg quality is not untraceable, and the body sends signals in many ways.
,.The most typical ones include disorders of the menstrual cycle, such as a significant decrease in menstrual volume, a prolonged period, or a completely irregular cycle.
,.It is difficult for the egg to successfully combine with sperm to form a healthy fertilized egg, or after combining, it stops growing early in development due to problems such as lack of energy and chromosomal abnormalities, resulting in repeated biochemical pregnancies or early miscarriages.
,,(,),.These phenomena are often related to abnormal ovarian function, endocrine disorders, and especially elevated androgen levels.
There is a comprehensive evaluation system for judging egg quality inmedicine.
.Ultrasound monitoring is one of the intuitive methods. Doctors use B-ultrasound to observe the development of follicles. A healthy mature follicle usually reaches 18-25 mm in diameter and has a plump round or oval shape. If the follicle is too small (such as the diameter is often less than 18mm) or has irregular shape and poor tension, it suggests that the egg quality may be poor.
.Six sex hormone tests are performed at specific time points during the menstrual cycle (such as days 2-3). If the basic follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level is higher than 10 IU/L, or the estradiol (E2) level is abnormal, it may imply decreased ovarian function and decreased egg quality.
(AMH),AMH,,.In addition, peak estrogen can also provide a reference. The estrogen produced by a mature follicle should reach about 300 pg/mL. If it is lower than 200 pg/mL, it indicates that the egg quality may be poor.
Age is the primary and irreversible factor affecting egg quality.
.Women are in the golden period of fertility between the ages of 23 and 30. After the age of 35, the number and quality of eggs will drop like a cliff, the chance of chromosomal abnormalities will increase significantly, and mitochondrial function will decline. In addition, there are also a small number of people with congenital chromosomal abnormalities (such as balanced translocations) and familial ovarian dysfunction.
,.Staying up late for a long time will disrupt the endocrine rhythm, smoking and alcohol will directly damage egg DNA, while excessive mental stress can lead to hormone imbalance, sedentary period, etc.
--.For example, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can cause endocrine disorders that make it difficult for follicles to develop and mature; diseases such as endometriosis and ovarian chocolate cysts can destroy the ovarian microenvironment; insulin resistance, obesity/excessive diet causes insufficient nutritional supply, affecting the normal development of eggs.
Harmful substances in the environment also cannot be ignored. These include pesticide residues, heavy metals such as lead and mercury, chemical pollutants like formaldehyde and plasticizers, as well as radiation. These substances can accumulate in the body, generate free radicals, and damage the cellular structure of eggs.
Improvingegg quality requires a two-pronged approach: reducing damage and strengthening nutrition.
:.First of all, we must avoid the source of harm, try to stay away from the above-mentioned harmful environment, change bad habits such as staying up late and smoking, and actively treat primary diseases.
,.It is recommended to increase the intake of high-quality protein (fish, eggs, beans) appropriately and supplement more foods rich in antioxidants (such as dark vegetables, nuts) to fight free radicals.
,.Folic acid supplementation is fundamental to preventing fetal neural tube defects and is also beneficial to egg development. Coenzyme Q10, as an antioxidant, provides energy to egg mitochondria and is the "engine fuel" of the egg. Adequate levels of vitamin D are also critical for follicular development and hormone balance.
In addition, moderate exercise can improve blood circulation in the pelvic area, which is beneficial for ovarian health. Managing stress and maintaining a positive mood help maintain stable endocrine functions, thereby creating an optimal internal environment for egg development.
,,-(IVF-ET),.These technologies enable fertilization and early embryo culture in vitro, and use pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) to screen out healthy embryos for transfer.
,.Through scientific evaluation, precise intervention and patient conditioning, many women are still able to usher in new lives of their own. As a reproductive medicine expert said,"Is the quality of eggs really impossible to change? The answer is: It can be changed. The key is to find the right method and persevere."
